About Heights, TX
Houston Heights is one of the city’s oldest suburban developments, established in 1891 by the Omaha and South Texas Land Company as a planned “garden suburb.” Over the decades it’s retained a small-town feel through historic preservation, charming bungalows, ornate Victorian homes, and a vibrant walkable commercial strip along 19th Street. Notable landmarks include the Houston Heights Fire Station (former city hall & fire station from 1914) and the Oriental Textile Mill complex, a striking industrial-era clock tower structure now repurposed for creative uses.
